New to Internet Radio?
Welcome to the entertaining, free-form world of Internet radio! We're glad to have you on board. We don't feed you a steady diet of stale music or a razor-thin, monotonous playlist that much of commercial radio forces upon listeners these days. Instead, we (and most other Internet stations) wish to bring you something a little different, or "extra." Come on in and see what we mean. If this is your first time here and you aren't quite sure of what to do, here are the basics for listening to Hounddog Radio, as well as Internet radio in general: |
| Step 1. | You'll need some sort of audio-playing software on your computer. Your computer probably has at least one already installed, such as: Winamp, iTunes, MusicMatch, RealPlayer or Windows Media Player. If you don't have one already or if you prefer one of those listed, you can download the appropriate one from its above link. Or, you could try our new stand-alone player, which you can find in the top menu. All of these players are FREE (at least the versions we're talking about) and will work quite nicely for Internet radio. We personally recommend Winamp or iTunes, as both of those players will give you the artist and track names while you listen. RealPlayer may do so as well. The Windows Media Player does not list our track names at this time. |
| Step 2. | Once
you have a player installed, click the appropriate
link for your player on our home page in
the "Tune In" box, or from its
corresponding icon at the upper-right of
any of our pages. It should automatically
open to our listening "stream" (the
techie name for our programming). Our broadband
streams are currently set at 96k,
or 96kilobits per second
(superior to FM stereo, but not quite CD
quality), while our dial-up streams are set
at 24k. |
| Step 3. | You can view what's currently playing at the top of each of our pages. In addition, we have a more detailed "Now Playing" section on the right side of our main page. That will show you what is currently playing, as well as the previous nine selections that have aired. |
| Step 4. | Our live shows are interactive and we have a designated chat room for listeners to converse with us as well as other listeners. We want you to be a part of the show! Make a request, suggest an idea, shoot the breeze, give the DJ a hard time, whatever you like. The chat room can be accessed from one of the two links we have in our top menu on each page. You'll need to have AOL Instant Messenger installed on your computer to access the chat. It's free and easy to install. Trust us, our shows are much more fun when you get involved. |
