About Us

HounddogRadio.net has been home to a 24-hour Internet broadcast since June 2000. Originally broadcast from Stone Mountain, Georgia, our programming now originates from Loganville, Georgia. We present a great mix of country, bluegrass, rock, jazz and blues - with a particular emphasis on playing and promoting music from independent artists. We love to support them and enjoy providing a vehicle for them to present their music to a receptive audience. Please help us to continue to do so by checking out the artists' respective websites, purchasing their music, or attending one of their live shows. And hey, while you're at it, tell 'em Hounddog Radio sent ya!

We hope that you enjoy our programming and are always happy to hear from listeners, so please let us know of any comments or suggestions you have. Also, if you're listening to one of our live shows, come on in to the chat room and say hey! (you'll need AIM® Instant Messenger for this, but it's free.)

Our Hosts

Frank & Cathy Coon
Frank and Cathy Coon

The success of HounddogRadio.net is a testimonial to the life story of Frank Coon. Born blind, Frank dreamed of becoming a radio broadcaster since he was a child. He was naïve to the reality that his blindness would be an obstacle. After graduating from high school, he moved to Georgia and began a 15-year career as a vocalist and manager in the entertainment industry. In the spring of 1986, Frank's life was changed by two events. First, he was struck by a van, which seriously injured his back and forced him to rely on crutches for two years. Second (and much more happily), he became acquainted with his lovely and future wife, Cathy, who is also blind. When Frank was again able to work, he decided to pursue his childhood dream of becoming a broadcaster. In May 1989, he obtained his FCC license from WRFG-FM in Atlanta, GA. Frank then sought employment in the industry, but the broadcasting world was unfortunately not willing to look past his disability. With a career in broadcasting seemingly not forthcoming, Frank took a job in the computer industry. Eventually, the two worlds would come together.

The technological revolution known as the Internet has allowed Frank to realize his dream of not only becoming a radio broadcaster, but taking it one step further...having his own station. Frank began working on the concept of HounddogRadio.net in 1999, with his wonderful wife Cathy assisting him in many ways (not the least of which is - tolerating it in her house). All of Frank's hard work was rewarded and his childhood dream became a reality when Hounddog Radio went on the air in June 2000. Frank is a natural entertainer and co-founder of the Webcaster Alliance.

Eric Jefferson

Eric Jefferson

Eric began his broadcasting career in 1989 with a brief stint at Camden County College's WDBK-FM in Blackwood, NJ. From there, he served an internship at WMMR in Philadelphia for a year, learning quite a bit about commercial radio. After completing his stay at WMMR, Eric finished his studies for a degree in Communications at Rowan University in New Jersey, hosting The Rock & Roll Creation program on WGLS in Glassboro, NJ during the early '90s. After many years away from the mic, Eric's friend "Dangerous Dave" invited him to sit in on a broadcast of Monday Night Mayhem show in February 2005. It wasn't long before Eric found himself with his own weekly show on HounddogRadio.net, The Cybertoxic Lounge.

A member of the Webcaster Alliance, Eric likes to bring a wide mix of classic rock from all corners of the genre to his show. “Commercial radio is not only ignoring the interesting stuff coming from most of today's indie artists," Eric says, "they've also abandoned many fantastic older rock songs by established stars and instead have opted for a thin, tired, overly recycled playlist. "I especially enjoy it when listeners tell me they haven't heard some of these songs in a long time and had forgotten how much they loved them."

Eric became Hounddog Radio's station manager in 2006, a title which he blatantly exploits for free merchandise and in vain attempts at impressing women. He currently resides along the mean streets of Alpharetta, GA.

Nick Sommers

Nick Sommers

Nick "the Nixter" Sommers is a longtime radio veteran who joined us in April 2006. Originally from western Tennessee, Nick got his start at WDTM in Selmer, TN while still in his teens. He also served in the U.S. Army National Guard during his two-year tenure at WDTM before relocating to Georgia and eventually joining WIMO in Winder, GA. Nick found a home there for about 5 and ½ years, including a stint as the weekday "morning guy" at WIMO (The Nixter Morning Show), then later moving to the afternoons. He also hosted a program called Trading Time and delivered community news. The "Nixter" was an important member of WIMO's staff for several years before finding his way to us. "Hounddog Radio has reminded me of how radio used to be," says Nick, "and how it was meant to be." Nick's show, Friday Night Fusion, is an entertaining mix of classic rock, mainstream country and indies, with a good dose of fun and humor sprinkled in to kick off your weekend with a smile.

In addition to his show on Hounddog Radio, Nick is also the producer for The Cowboy Way Show, a syndicated radio program dedicated to preserving the traditions of the old West.

Nick currently resides in Winder, GA.

Captain Cranky

"Captain Cranky"

Nick's co-host on Friday Night Fusion is mysteriously known as "Captain Cranky." A musician for years, "his crankiness" has long had a passion for music of various types. His early genre of choice was hard rock and heavy metal, and his own musical style was influenced greatly as such. As a longtime friend of the Nixter, he decided to try his hand at radio in late 2006. After sitting in for just one show, Cranky was hooked. He's now a co-host on "Fusion" and has become a welcome addition to our staff.

Captain Cranky adds a bit of interesting rock trivia knowledge to the show, and he's really good about going on the all-important beer runs. In short, he fits in quite well here at Hounddog Radio.

Ashley Taylor

Ashley Taylor

The host of Thursday Night Time Trip started with us in 2007 as Frank's co-host on Saturday Night Jam, which proves that she has a thick skin and can handle all sorts of incorrigible behavior (hell, we’re still surprised she came back after week one). Ashley Taylor has since stepped out on her own and we’re excited to have her do so. She often pulls double-duty during the week, as she and Cat often join female forces (and scare the hell out of us men around here) as co-hosts of Friday Night Freedom with her.

In addition, Ashley serves as the station photographer and in various public relations areas for us. Ashley lives in Lawrenceville with two roommates, 3 dogs, 4 cats, and one parrot. In other words, she's no stranger to dealing with animals, so she handles Hounddog very well.

"Jammin' Jimmy"

"Jammin' Jimmy"

"Jammin' Jimmy" has been Ashley's co-host of Thursday Night Time Trip for several months now, and we're very glad to have him as part of our team. Jimmy is originally from Dayton, OH, but he's pretty much a Georgian now since moving here as a youngster. Jimmy now resides in our little town of Loganville and a mere stones-throw away from the Doghouse (but please don't throw stones at us; we bruise very easily).

Jimmy brings us some hilarious celebrity impressions, fabulous artwork, and, uh, martial arts training (which may come in handy if there's a stone-throwing incident). Jimmy is most at home when we're spinning some of his favorite classic rock artists, such as AC/DC, Def Leppard, Iron Maiden, Queen, Led Zeppelin, and many more. His quick wit and spontaneous humor keep Ashley on her toes and everyone here entertained. You can catch Jimmy on Thursday Night Time Trip every Thursday at 8pm EST, and be sure to say hey to him in the chat room.
