Join us in the Doghouse this Sunday at 3pm, as Alpharetta, GA's High Cotton will be performing for us as part of our revived Pickin' on the Porch series. We'll be broadcasting it of course, but you can come on by and catch the show IN PERSON! See below for details. High Cotton is a group of "seasoned" musicians whose collective experience gives their original songs a depth and quality that is timeless. Their sound combines soulful and devilishly passionate vocals from Laura Monk with a cool mix of rhythm guitar, deep bass undertones, percussion and smooth leads. High Cotton's unique sound stretches the ‘Americana’ tag, resulting in the memorable songs on their latest CD, Pictures. A little bit of this 'n' that, blended with all parts of life’s journeys, creates a full bale of...High Cotton. For more information on the show and directions, please send an email to comments@hounddogradio.net and we'll give you the lowdown on everything you need to know for the show. The included link should automatically put "Pickin' on the Porch" as the subject. However, if you're using a web-based email program, please type that line (or some variation of it) in the subject line of your email. This helps us weed through our dreaded spam, and we greatly appreciate your help with that. Come party in the High Cotton with us this Sunday! Ladies and gentlemen, it's time for...
Awwww yeah. It'll be another evening of raisin' the roof down in Atlanta to commemorate the anniversary of this here station's debut. Please make plans to join us on Sunday, June 8, as we celebrate HounddogRadio's eighth birthday! This will be our third consecutive year at the legendary Blind Willie's, as the fine folks who run that great venue keep letting us come back for more. We're very grateful to them for hosting us and can't say enough good things about their hospitality. Joining us for this year's festivities will be many of your favorites from previous bashes (is "bashes" a noun? Well, it should be), as well as a brand-new act that we know you're gonna love. Our returning artists will be: and the newcomer to our annual show, fresh from the release of their debut album, is...(make drumroll sound to yourself and others around you; it's fun)... Len Rosen and the Tribe of Good Fortune That's the pretty-much official lineup, but we have a feeling that there just may be a few special guests and surprises throughout the evening. We'll be posting ticket information and other details soon. We hope to see ya there! |
Many thanks to everyone who came out to Hounddog Radio for "Nixterversary '08!" I appreciate each of you for your support. Special thanks to Moriah Martin and her mom, Miranda. Moriah's visit during the first hour of the show was a real treat, and her rendition of "The Star-Spangled Banner" gave me chills. This very talented young singer is welcomed to come back anytime! I also want to thank April Cummings for stopping in to visit during the final hour of the program. Her live performances were amazing, as usual. Thanks a bunch for helping to make it a really special evening. Thanks to Frank "the Hounddog" Coon for helping plan the entertainment, and for assisting with the interviews. None of us would be heard, and there would be no Hounddog Radio without Frank. He's the man! Er, uhm... the "dog." To Eric Jefferson, thank you for coming out to be part of the show. You're a wonderful colleague and a great friend. I do appreciate your support, man. More special thanks to my co-host, as well. Cranky takes a lot of abuse from time to time on the show, but it wouldn't be the same without him. To my friends Ryan and Michelle Earp, thank you so much for making the effort to drive all the way up from Valdosta! You guys rock! In a short time, we've become fast friends...just that you made this effort to visit made my night. Last, but certainly not least, thanks to Ashley "the Rockin' Redhead" Taylor for making the pudding-shots and Jello-shooters! MMmmm, those were mighty good. Thanks for being such a good friend. Not to leave anyone out, if you had ANYTHING to do with Nixterversary '08 at all...whether you were present at the "Doghouse" or joining us in the chatroom... THANK YOU ALL for making my two-year anniversary with Hounddog Radio such a fun night!!! I love you guys! Let's all get together and do it again next year! - Nick Sommers Sean Costello: 1979-2008
We were very saddened to learn that the Atlanta blues scene lost one of its brightest stars on April 15. Sean Costello, former guitarist for Susan Tedeschi and an extraordinary solo artist, passed away just one day shy of his 29th birthday. Further details are not available at this time. Over the last dozen or so years, Sean had become one of the most exciting singer-songwriters and guitarists on the blues scene (local or otherwise), putting a deeply personal imprint on classic soul, blues, and roots rock sounds. We can't say that we knew Sean personally, but some of our staff members did have the pleasure of seeing the guy perform around Atlanta over the years and were highly impressed. HounddogRadio sends our deepest condolences to Sean's family, friends and fans. He will be greatly missed. You can hear some of Sean's wonderful music right here. Clapton

Yeppers, everyone. HounddogRadio sure is becoming all worldly 'n' stuff. Not only are we doing fun simulcasts with our German friends at Canyon of Dragons Radio on a regular basis, but now we're even bringin' in guests from overseas to the Doghouse! We were delighted to have folk sensation John Carrie and Moor Green visit us all the way from Amsterdam, Holland! They've recently released their debut album, Folk is Not Happy, and are doing a tour of the southeastern part of the U.S. to support it. The guys were kind enough to schedule a visit with us along the way. Dank, kerels! (we're pretty sure that's Dutch for "thanks, guys"; we're gonna have to get a good language translator in the Doghouse soon). Also, we are happy to say that representatives from our hometown paper, The Loganville Tribune, were in attendance and will be featuring an article and pictures of John and the guys' visit in an upcoming issue. Keep it tuned here for more info. on that as we get it. |

HounddogRadio in Loganville News Well, it looks like we've made the papers again (and no, it's not the police blotter; we're, uh, gettin' better about that since we cut back on the 12-packs). Thanks to a tip from our pal Alan Gordon Smith over in England, our neighbors at The Loganville Tribune featured a story on us in their July 6 issue. Frank and Nick, those insatiable publicity hounds, were interviewed and discussed the history of our station, our increasing international audience and the current battle between Internet radio and the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). We'd like to thank Sharon Swanepoel and all of the folks over at the Tribune for covering us and what we do. We also extend our gratitude to our buddy, Alan, for giving the Tribune the scoop on us. You can read the article here. |
